The Southern Hebrides and Northwest Ireland share strong Celtic roots, reflected in cultural traditions, music and the Gaelic language. Geologically, both areas were influenced by significant volcanic activity which shaped their dramatic coastlines, and they also share the unique "machair" coastal grasslands.
Our Southern Hebrides and Northwest Ireland 10-night cruise is a new one-off itinerary for 2027 aboard Lucy Mary departing June 7th 2027. It is a unique journey to explore dramatic coastal scenery, communities and marine wildlife. The cruise will head quickly south from Oban, with a stopover at picturesque Crinan, before crossing the North Channel, to the North Irish Coastline. The itinerary along the North Coast is likely to include Rathlin Island, the Giants Causeway, Malin Head and Glenoory Point. Possible anchorages and shore visits include sheltered Pollcormick Bay for its famous white sands and Gola Island for the teeming bird life, high cliffs and spectacular scenery. Sea conditions and time permitting, the cruise may head around the west coast to the fishing town of Killybegs and the Slieve League Mountain which has some of the highest sea cliffs in Ireland. The North West coast waters of Ireland are having increasing sightings of porpoises and dophins, as well as minke, humpback and even fin whales so our on board wildlife guide will be glued to the binoculars!
The return journey is likely to take in the West Coast of the Isle of Islay, Port na Haven on the South West Point of Islay and Nave Island on the North West Point of Islay. The anchorage for the final night on board would likely be Loch Spelve on the Isle of Mull or Ardencaple Bay on the Isle of Seil

This must be one of the most relaxing holidays I have ever been on. A lifelong ambition was fulfilled be visiting Staffa and seeing Fingal's Cave and it was every bit as spectacular as I had hoped. Not only did we walk down the route to it to look into it but, thanks to Chris judging the tide to be right, he was able to get us right inside it. Iona and its abbey were impressive too of course and being able to land on Lunga in the Treshnish Islands and see the seabird colonies - puffins galore - was equally marvellous. The sail round Mull was an eye-opener too, seeing lochs from the sea rather than from the land. They were wonderful locations to spend the nights. And the weather was glorious. The wildlife was in abundance too with lots of seabirds and seals and good sightings of cetaceans. Bottle-nosed dolphins were the first up to bow-wave and we also had 4 or 5 Minke whales fishing and a few porpoises, but the most spectacular were over 100 Common Dolphins which came leaping from all directions to accompany us for over an hour. The hospitality on board was as friendly as ever on a Hebrides Cruises's trip thanks to Chris, Craig, Zoe and Sian with her delicious meals. Add to that very compatible fellow-travellers and no WiFi (so no gloomy news) and this was a holiday to be long treasured in the memory.
